I love winter. OK, so the weather is not great, but there are lot of nice things to enjoy during the colder months.
There is nothing quite like cosying up under a blanket, on the sofa, with some snacks, and watching a movie on a cold evening. Walking the dog on a crisp day is exhilarating and we both love it if it snows.

However, my favourite thing about winter, without a doubt, is comfort food. So many things taste better in the colder months than they do in the summer. Here are just a few examples.
Piping hot spit roasted meat on a cold day
I can quite happily eat a hog roast at any time of the year, but I definitely enjoy eating a roll stuffed with applesauce and succulent pulled pork more in the winter than I do in the summer. Not sure why, but for some reason I feel that in the summer I should be eating a roll filled with cold, not hot meat.

If you fancy a hog roast Manchester street markets are a great place to find them. They are also popular at winter fairs and other outdoor events like firework displays.
Toffee apples
That brings to mind another great food that I associate with winter. For some reason it just seems wrong to eat a toffee apple on any other night than bonfire night.

Warming stews
I love hearty stews, and eat a lot more of them during the winter months. When it is cold, there is nothing better for warming you up.
Pomegranates
This beautiful fruit tastes every bit as good as it looks. They take a bit of effort to peel and eat, but are definitely well worth the effort.

For me, these seasonal foods are the perfect antidote for the winter blues. I look forward to enjoying them every winter.
